Changing Default Download Directory
Windows
Changing the General "Downloads" Folder Location:
- Open File Explorer (Windows Key + E).
- Right-click on "Downloads" in the left-hand pane.
- Select "Properties."
- Go to the "Location" tab.
- Click "Move..." and select the new folder location, or type the path directly.
- Click "OK" to apply changes.
- Keep "Downloads" as the folder name within the new location (e.g., "D:\Downloads").
Changing Browser-Specific Download Locations:
Chrome:
- Open Chrome, go to Settings (⋮ > Settings).
- Click "Downloads," then "Change."
- Select a new location.
Microsoft Edge:
- Open Edge, go to Settings (... > Settings).
- Click "Downloads," then "Change."
- Select a new location.
Firefox:
- Open Firefox, go to Settings (☰ > Settings).
- In "General," scroll to "Downloads" and choose a new location or "Always ask."
Mac
Changing Browser-Specific Download Locations:
Safari:
- Open Safari, go to Preferences (Safari > Preferences).
- Go to "General," find "File download location," and select "Other..."
Chrome:
- Open Chrome, go to Settings (Chrome > Settings).
- Click "Downloads," then "Change."
- Select a new location.
Firefox:
- Open Firefox, go to Settings (Firefox > Settings).
- In "General," scroll to "Downloads" and choose a new location or "Always ask."
Key Considerations:
- Browser settings override OS defaults for browser downloads.
- Use "Ask where to save" for maximum control.
- Organize folders for better file management.
